Technology and innovation in focus

The show covers the full value chain from manufacturing to aftermarket: parts and components, electrics and electronics, accessories, diagnostics, body and paint, and tyres and wheels. The Parts & Components and Electronics & Systems section, the largest at the show, brings together more than 4,200 exhibitors presenting the latest in lightweight materials, smart technologies and electrification for combustion, electric and hybrid vehicles.

With electrification accelerating, almost half of all exhibitors focus on new-energy products and services. The New Energy & Connectivity section is growing by 20%, with 700 exhibitors covering electric drive systems, autonomous driving, AI, battery charging and swapping, smart chassis and thermal management, as well as hybrid, fuel-cell and hydrogen solutions. The show will also launch a Global Quality Alliance Hub built around the IATF 16949 automotive quality standard.

A five-pillar events programme

  • Flagship events: industry trends, policy and innovation.
  • Tech series: emerging technologies and R&D collaboration.
  • Talent series: connecting companies with skilled people through education initiatives.
  • Connect: year-round cooperation between carmakers and suppliers, including supply-demand matchmaking and a global forum.
  • Automotive+: the convergence of AI, vehicle-road-cloud systems, new energy and robotics, with the Innovation4Mobility platform showcasing these technologies.

New opportunities for Middle East companies

The GCC market for new light vehicles keeps growing, expanding the region’s vehicle parc and driving demand for parts distribution, workshop equipment and aftermarket services. The rising number of electric vehicles is also creating new needs in diagnostics, charging systems and electric drivetrain servicing, making international platforms such as Automechanika Shanghai an important destination for sourcing and partnerships.

Across Asia, several countries have become major manufacturing hubs, serving domestic demand and exporting complete vehicles and parts. China leads in production and exports: the vehicles shipped worldwide by Chinese carmakers were worth around US$117 billion, with a strong focus on new-energy vehicles, alongside major contributions from Thailand, India, Japan and South Korea.

Aftermarket: an essential sector

Automechanika Shanghai is the largest show of its kind in Asia. Its aftermarket focus remains highly relevant in markets where the fleet is ageing and still mostly powered by combustion engines, even as the share of electric cars grows. Demand for traditional parts stays strong, while continuous innovation is needed to keep up with a fleet that keeps evolving.

For parts companies, dealers and service centres in the Gulf, the show offers a chance to follow the industry’s latest technology and meet global suppliers in one place.
