New Omoda X Revealed: 2026 Crossover with Thermal Night Vision and 1,800 kg Towing
Omoda, one of the brands of China’s Chery Group, revealed its new Omoda X to the world on the evening of 20 October 2026 at the “OMODA X Night” event in Wuhu, China, held as part of the 2026 Chery International User Summit. The company calls it the first “Mecha Cross”: a crossover that blends sports-car energy, off-road toughness and design inspired by the world of mecha robots.
The reveal comes days after Omoda & Jaecoo reported strong global sales growth, and at a time when both brands are expanding across the Gulf, making the Omoda X an early indicator of what future models heading to the region could look like.
The details: “Crossvolution” design with an off-road spirit
The Omoda X follows a new design philosophy the company calls “Crossvolution”, with sharp geometric lines and a wider stance, pronounced wheel arches, extensive lower-body cladding, jagged daytime running lights and tail lights shaped like “energy strikes”. The show car rode on black 19-inch wheels with Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tyres in 255/55 R19, yellow brake calipers and coil springs, and ProGloss Plus paint that Omoda says is scratch-resistant and self-healing.

Inside what the company calls the “Mecha” cockpit, the Omoda X pairs a 10.25-inch digital instrument display with a portrait-oriented 13.2-inch central screen, plus physical metal-effect toggles and dials for the air conditioning and drive modes, and a red start/stop switch. The cabin offers 39 storage spaces, a customisable “X Mode” drive setting and “OMODA Open Mic” in-car karaoke with four independent voice zones and no handheld microphone.
Announced specifications and figures
The headline feature is an infrared thermal-imaging night vision system, a first for Omoda & Jaecoo, with a claimed recognition range of up to 90 metres to spot pedestrians and animals in the dark. These are the key figures announced:

Omoda has not yet officially announced powertrain details or pricing. Media reports indicate it will use Chery’s multi-energy platform, with plug-in hybrid and electric options and two- or all-wheel drive. At the same summit, the brand also showcased its Super Hybrid technology and SIVP smart valet parking, technologies recently seen on the Omoda 4 and Omoda 5 NEXT at the Paris Motor Show.
What it means for Kuwait and the GCC
The Omoda X brings together things many buyers in Kuwait and the Gulf look for: a practical crossover body for the city, plus ground clearance, wading and towing ability suited to desert trips, camping and pulling small boats, and night vision that is useful on dark roads outside town. Omoda & Jaecoo says cumulative deliveries in the UAE passed 6,000 vehicles by the end of September 2026 with a growing dealer network, and ZigWheels UAE reported that the models and technologies shown at the summit are expected in GCC markets soon.
Shawn Xu, CEO of Omoda & Jaecoo International, said: “Our vision is to create vehicles that go beyond transportation and become an integral part of our customers’ lifestyles.” No official launch date has been announced for the Omoda X in Kuwait or the wider GCC; the company says launch plans will be announced later, while reports point to first global arrivals in 2027. It is part of a wider Chery Group expansion in the region, including Freelander’s plans to enter Kuwait in early 2027 and Chery’s L4 Robotaxi agreement with the UAE’s K2.
